A former leading fashion model who was 5'10'' tall, Carey was a favorite with the top American fashion designers like Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Her father is an accomplished scientist who was named Scientist of the Year back in 1979, at the Rocky Mountain Association of Geologists. Carey was brought up all over the planet because of the work of her father. Modeling began part time when she was a student studying at university at the University of Colorado and caught the eye of a rep for the Ford model Agency in New York. She briefly lived and studied in Paris prior to returning in New York. Her modeling as well as her college career took off and she appeared on the covers of Glamour's and Vogue's and many other magazine covers. Between her modelling assignments she also studied literature full time during her time at New York University.
